What to expect from your Reflexology Treatment?
A Therapeutic Reflexology treatment session runs for approximately 60 minutes.
During the first session a brief medical history, including questions about your lifestyle – diet, exercise, current medication, past operations, accidents and so on are taken. A physical assessment of your feet will also be done. All clients receive a full consultation with an aromatic foot soak and pre-treatment foot massage to warm and relax the feet.
Please note your first appointment will be 1.5 hours as we will complete a questionnaire and go over any concerns in order to determine the best treatment plan for you.
During the treatment process, I will ask that you sit on a therapy bed, you will have pillow to help you feel as comfortable as possible, (pillows will also be placed under the knees and under the ankles for ease of access to the feet), I will also ask whether you would like a blanket for your comfort. Unlike other complementary physical therapies (such as massage), you are required to stay fully clothed. I will need access to the lower leg/foot, so appropriate clothing to allow this is advisable. I apply reflexology balms to your feet that are all natural and have no nasty chemicals, preservatives, and can contain essential oils.
A treatment consists of deep manipulation of reflex referral points on the feet that relate to the organs of the body. Different sensations may be experienced as certain reflexes are stimulated. Some of the reflexes may be very sensitive, even painful. Sometimes you may feel crunchy type crystals while receiving a reflexology foot massage, which is caused by the build-up of lactic acid. This lactic acid can be broken down through massage, reabsorbed into the body and subsequently eliminated in waste product. This can then improve blood supply, help the body to detoxify and remove blockages in nerve pathways.
At the end of the session I will discuss my findings with you, and suggest a course of action to achieve your goals.
As a Reflexologist I do not diagnose nor do I treat a specific disease.
Reflexology is a holistic treatment therefore the entire body is stimulated during each treatment. We do not claim to cure any illness. We stimulate the body’s own healing potential which results in optimal functioning of the organs and a reduction of the symptoms relating to a disease. In most cases, you will get better over a period of time.
It is against our scope of practice to prescribe or adjust medication.
Reflexology should NOT be viewed as a replacement for medical care.
If you have any concerns about your health then you should always seek advice from your doctor or health care practitioner.
In the unavoidable event of you having to cancel your session,
please contact me at least 24 hours before your appointment time.
